HRDF CEO Shares Insights on National Workforce Blueprint at AMU

Cyberjaya, 18th April 2018 – Asia Metropolitan University (AMU) hosted an industry dialogue session that featured Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) Chief Executive Dato’ CM Vignaesvaran Jeyandran.

In April 2012, Dato’ Vignaesvaran became the Deputy Chief Executive (Operations) of HRDF prior to assuming his current position as HRDF’s Chief Executive in November 2014. In addition, Dato’ Vicks also sits on the Boards of HRDF and the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC) and was made the President Elect for the International Federation of Training and Development Organisations (IFTDO) in April 2017.

The dialogue session saw a gathering of over 100 participants from the AMU community including management staff, academicians and representatives from the ASEAN Retail-Chains & Franchise Federation (ARFF). Also present at the session were entrepreneurs, business professionals and Human Resource managers from neighboring organizations.

Organised by the Faculty of Business, Management & Information Technology, the dialogue session was held to share the National Workforce Human Capital Development Blueprint by the Government for the next seven years from 2018 to 2025.

The Blueprint was officially launched by YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib, Prime Minister of Malaysia on January 29, 2018 and it outlines several strategic initiatives to address workforce challenges associated with Industry 4.0.

Dato’ Vignaesvaran explained about the fast approaching Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) that play a vital role in up-skilling, reskilling and multi-skilling of the nation’s human capital. “With data and analyses provided in this Blueprint, business owners, human resource professionals, learning and development practitioners as well as employees, parents and young talents intending to pursue their higher education will find it most helpful and convenient as it provides latest insights on industry trends and operations”, he said.

Industry 4.0 refers to the latest digitization and automation of manufacturing processes. It incorporates advanced sensors, machine-to-machine communication links, 3-D printing, robotics, artificial intelligence, big data analytics and cloud computing technologies.

These cyber-physical platforms monitor factory processes and make decentralized, self-governing decisions, leading to “intelligent” or “smart” factories. Industry 4.0 covers the entire value chain, including suppliers, procurement, design, logistics and even sales, resulting in higher productivity and flexibility that result in better monitoring and maintenance of machinery, and improved security and safety.

Dato’ Vignaesvaran also shared how HRDF has been on a constant pursuit providing trainings and allocating funds for working adults to enroll for courses and education programmes to develop better understanding and adopt new work methods for a promise-filled future.

According to Dr. Anbalagan, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Management and Information Technology, “The presentation and the detailed explanation of the blueprint helped us understand how we can assist students in preparing themselves for Industry 4.0. The Faculty has always worked to ensure that our students develop industry relevant skills and this blueprint will go a long way in achieving that”.

The entire session summed up the efforts of HRDF towards upscaling workforce and increasing productivity of the nation. Those present at the dialogue session had the privilege to understand how the blueprint helped redefine and regulate issues related to human capital and workforce towards improving the nation’s economy.

AMU’s Industry Dialogue Session serve as a platform to highlight professional experts from the industry to share advances of the industry and how these advances contribute towards the growth and stability of the nation’s economy. Professional talks and discussions remain an ongoing effort to nurture and sustain positive development among working professionals. The dialogue sessions are held quarterly to ensure the University’s community are kept up-to-date with latest industrial trends.
